    Sensitive cardholder details, like names, account numbers, and expiration dates, should be encrypted during transmission over open networks. Storage of this data should be limited and retained solely, if necessary, with strong encryption, hashing, and truncation techniques employed to thwart unauthorized access.

  3. Maintain a Vulnerability Management Program: Vulnerability management is the process of identifying weaknesses within a payment card system, encompassing security procedures, system design, implementation, and internal controls.   6. Maintain an Information Security Policy: A comprehensive information security policy is pivotal in guiding employees, contractors, and partners in maintaining a secure payment environment. This policy encompasses security responsibilities for employees, acceptable resource use, incident response protocols and many more.

    Also, regular training and awareness initiatives help employees comprehend their roles in safeguarding cardholder data and adhering to security practices. A robust security policy establishes the foundation for security across the entire organization and enlightens employees about their obligations regarding cardholder data protection and security maintenance.
